This is the personal website of James Rice, a 1st year PhD student at the Univeristy of Essex. James holds two MSc degrees, one in 2024 from the London School of Economics in the Philosophy of the Social Sciences. Before this he was an MSc student at the University of Edinburgh completing a Master’s thesis in the Philosophy, Science and Religion programme. James also holds a Postgraduate Certificate from Harvard Extension School in Philosophy and Ethics, where he studied classical historical works of Western analytic and continental philosophy.

James currently holds a Sustainable Transitions Leverhulme Doctoral Training Scholarship (LDTP) at Essex, where he is studying under the supervision of Zorzeta Bakaki (Government) and Thankom Arun (Essex Business School). His project title is “Climate Change Misinformation” and he is currently researching the wide range of sources and effects of misinformation on institutions, corporations, and individuals.

James also holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut (UConn) in Economics. There, he undertook PhD level and Master’s level courses in advanced econometrics, financial econometrics, R programming, and machine learning. He was a part of Professor Chihwa Kao’s PhD reading group in advanced econometrics and was a guest presenter for Dr. Kao’s Econometrics III PhD class in 2020 with a presentation on American Derivative Securities. While at UConn, James was awarded two scholarships: in his penultimate year, the Economics Department General Scholarship (2019), and in his final year, the Charles Triano Scholarship (2020).

James has held a veriety of academic and administrative service positions (paid and unpaid) throughout his education.
